Life as a mom is busy. We are constantly trying to fit everything in. From running children around to activities, making sure our families have healthy meals to eat, and trying to keep on top of household chores and of course keeping up to professional commitments. It can get overwhelming for all working moms sometimes.

Think about a Mom and the title “know-it-all” is almost synonymous to it. We know it all- how to plan the day, how to save money, how to manage time etc etc.

But trust me, whether you are working for home, working out of home or working from home- there definitely exist a few things that make your life a tad easier. It’s this way in my case for sure. So I thought of sharing with you 5 things that are life savers for working moms.

5 things that are life savers for working moms

1. Dry Shampoo

I didn’t realize this was a thing until a whole bunch of moms chimed in and told me this was “the” thing of today’s life. For all those lazy hair days or the run out of the time days, these dry shampoos are there for your rescue.
You know how it feels to have a bad hair day. And of course when you are too lazy or are short of time to wash your hair, apply that conditioner, followed by a hair serum, and so on, dry shampoos are definitely my saviour. It gives good hair in a jiffy! It’s truly the gift of time.

2. Smart Apps on mobile phone

Smart technology is an essential for everyone these days. I remember using apps for Baby feed time, diaper change, vaccination etc as a new mom and trust me, these apps have been a lifesaver. Even basics like grocery, clothing, books etc everything is literally a click away if you are updated with such helpful apps.

Frankly, going to the grocery store by myself can be a vacation, but bring along two kids and it’s an obstacle course. I try to shop with each of my kids individually at least once a month (so they know how to shop and to teach them about financial choices). The rest of the time, I’m looking for hacks.

Beyond apps, if you get your hands on smart gadgets like Google Home or Alexa– there isn’t much this gadget can’t do! Alexa has all the answers. From playing music, setting timers and alarms for you and answering your kids questions (Why is the sky blue?). The sky really is the limit.

3. Pump-friendly work clothes

If you are a new mom, you know what I’m talking about. You’re back from maternity leave and therefore you’re ditching your yoga pants and momiform to return to your professional wardrobe. And, you do somehow need to look professional and pulled together after sleepless nights. Plus, you need to pump at work without having to undress to a level of discomfort. So pump friendly clothes like Crossover tops, wrap dresses, shirt dresses, and layered camisoles & tops are a must have in your wardrobe.

4. Dry Erase blackboard

As much cliched it might sound, but this has been such a handy tool for me as a working mom, especially because on most days I would miss meeting my house help/ cook. So anything that needs to be ordered, kitchen stuff, update on kids’ school tiffin etc would go on that magnetic scheduler placed on the fridge and catch my attention without fail! Try it out and you’ll see how having just a nice simple dry erase calendar placed somewhere you’ll see it every day (like on your fridge) will save you more time than you may think. You can write reminders on it for the month so you don’t forget anything like kids’ outings, meal plan, stuff you need to pick up from the grocery store etc. This will also help keep the rest of your family organised.

But beyond these, I feel one most crucial thing that has been a life saver for me as a working mom is being surrounded by helpful “village members” (remember it takes a village to raise a baby?) .

Having an “I can do this all myself” attitude in working motherhood is a recipe for disaster.  A household, nanny or even a child care provider- there is no shame in asking for help.  Ever.

Motherhood is hard!

Despite our many efforts do it all ourselves and keep it all together all the time, we simply need help. Whether you are a full-time working mom or a stay-at-home mom, the struggles to keep everything staying afloat applies to all of us.Therefore, anything that makes our job easier is what we need. Things like Robot vacuum cleaners, single-cup coffee brewers, slow-cookers, and online shopping were made for you, Mom. Use today’s time-saving things to your advantage. You can’t do it all — and now you don’t have to!
